La bandiera della Guinea è il simbolo nazionale di questo paese dell'Africa occidentale. È un padiglione composto da tre strisce verticali della stessa dimensione. Questi sono, da sinistra a destra, rossi, gialli e verdi. La bandiera della Guinea è l'unica che il paese ha avuto dalla sua indipendenza dalla Francia nel 1958.
Con pochissima storia di imperi di breve durata, la storia delle bandiere in quella che ora viene intesa come la Guinea iniziò dopo la colonizzazione francese alla fine del XIX secolo. Durante questo periodo, la Guinea ha utilizzato il tricolore francese, indipendentemente dal loro stato coloniale.

Con l'indipendenza della Guinea nel 1958 è arrivata la composizione del padiglione nazionale. Il paese, la prima colonia francese non araba indipendente nel continente, ha adottato i colori panafricani sulla sua bandiera. Tuttavia, è stato assegnato un significato specifico corrispondente alla realtà guineana.
Il colore rosso si identifica con il sangue versato nell'occupazione coloniale e nel movimento indipendentista. D'altra parte, il giallo rappresenta la ricchezza minerale e solare del paese, mentre il verde fa lo stesso, ma con la vegetazione nazionale e la religione islamica, la maggioranza in Guinea.
Storia della bandiera
L'attuale territorio guineano è stato dominato da grandi imperi per diversi secoli. Un regno Mandingo occupava gran parte del territorio, a sua volta dominato dall'Impero del Ghana.
Questa situazione continuò fino al XIII secolo, circa. Successivamente l'Impero del Mali era presente nel territorio, in particolare nel nord e nell'est del paese attuale.
L'Islam e gli europei sono arrivati molto più tardi attraverso i colonizzatori. Dal XVI secolo, diversi popoli come i nomadi Fulani adottarono l'Islam, seguiti dai popoli Manding, compresi i loro leader.
Gli europei divennero noti anche sulle coste dell'attuale Guinea, grazie al commercio di schiavi, avorio e spezie.
Colonizzazione francese
La Francia iniziò a esercitare la sua influenza attraverso il dominio delle coste dell'intera regione a metà del XIX secolo. I francesi iniziarono ad espandere i loro domini nell'attuale Mali, ma in seguito presero il controllo parziale dell'attuale Guinea.
Formalmente, la Guinea nacque come colonia francese indipendente dalle autorità senegalesi nel 1891. Con ciò, la bandiera francese iniziò a sventolare in Guinea come simbolo della nuova dipendenza coloniale.
Ciò non implicava che i francesi mantenessero il controllo di tutto il territorio guineano attuale, poiché dovevano affrontare diverse fazioni.
Impero di Wassolou
La colonizzazione francese non ha fermato l'avanzata delle forze colonizzatrici islamiche. In questo modo, l'Impero Wassolou fu fondato nel 1879, guidato dal conquistatore islamico Samory Touré. Il suo territorio è stato stabilito tra gli attuali confini di Guinea, Mali e Costa d'Avorio.
L'importanza di questo impero nella storia delle bandiere della Guinea è perché le sue truppe hanno sventolato una bandiera. Consisteva in un rettangolo diviso in tre strisce orizzontali della stessa dimensione.
I loro colori, dall'alto verso il basso, erano blu scuro, azzurro e bianco. Nell'area dell'asta della bandiera, la bandiera presentava un triangolo che includeva una stella a sette punte in cui era aggiunto un rombo.

La minaccia di Samory Touré si è estinta quando la Francia ha preso il controllo di tutte le sue colonie all'inizio del XX secolo. Da prima dell'insediamento della colonia della Guinea, la bandiera utilizzata era il tricolore francese, composto da tre strisce verticali di blu, bianco e rosso.

La Francia ha raggruppato le sue colonie nella regione nell'entità politica dell'Africa occidentale francese (AOF). La Guinea rimase in quello stato fino al 1958, quando riuscì a raggiungere la sua indipendenza. La bandiera francese è sempre stata il simbolo coloniale e in seguito è stato aggiunto uno scudo per identificare la colonia.

Indipendenza della Guinea
Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, la maggior parte delle colonie francesi in Africa si posizionò a favore della Francia libera del generale Charles de Gaulle.
Questo supporto è stato inquadrato nella Conferenza di Brazzaville firmata nel 1944, che ha portato alla liberalizzazione delle colonie dopo la costituzione francese del 1946.
La creazione di partiti politici e lo svolgimento delle elezioni stabilirono Sékou Touré come leader dell'indipendenza guineana. Nel 1958 si tenne un referendum in cui le colonie sarebbero entrate in un nuovo status politico chiamato Comunità francese.
La Guinea è stato l'unico territorio a respingere questa modifica costituzionale, per la quale ha ottenuto immediatamente l'indipendenza. Questo è stato completato il 2 ottobre 1958.
Touré ha assunto la presidenza e ha imposto un regime militare socialista. La bandiera scelta fin dal primo momento ha adottato i colori panafricani, essendo il primo Paese indipendente dalla Francia a farlo e il terzo in Africa, dopo Etiopia e Ghana.
I colori scelti erano quelli usati dal partito di Touré, chiamato Partito Democratico della Guinea. Il simbolo esiste dall'indipendenza.
Unione degli Stati africani
La Guinea era uno dei pochi paesi indipendenti in Africa nel 1958. Il Ghana aveva già ottenuto l'indipendenza dall'impero britannico, e con quel paese si formò l'Unione degli Stati africani, un'organizzazione precursore dell'attuale Unione africana.
La bandiera di questa unione di paesi consisteva in un tricolore di tre strisce orizzontali. La banda superiore era rossa, quella centrale gialla e quella inferiore verde. Nella parte centrale sono state aggiunte due stelle nere. Questa bandiera era una modifica di quella ghanese.

L'Unione degli Stati africani ha ricevuto il Mali, recentemente indipendente dalla Francia, a partire dal 1961. Ciò implicava l'aggiunta di una stella, composta da tre simboli neri nella fascia gialla. L'organizzazione è stata sciolta l'anno successivo.

Significato della bandiera
Il simbolo nazionale guineano è identificato con i colori panafricani, che rappresentano l'unità tra i popoli del continente. Tuttavia, nelle dinamiche interne, è stato stabilito un significato specifico per ciascuno dei colori.
Il rosso rappresenta il sangue dei martiri versato nella lotta contro l'occupazione francese e per l'indipendenza della Guinea. È anche un simbolo di sacrificio e lavoro.
Il giallo, come è consuetudine, è il colore della ricchezza. Nel caso della bandiera della Guinea, si identifica con la ricchezza minerale, come oro, bauxite, diamante, ferro e uranio. Tuttavia, è anche legato al sole e alla giustizia.
Allo stesso modo, il verde rappresenta la vegetazione del paese, composta dalle savane a nord-est e dalla foresta tropicale a sud-est. In questo senso, si riferisce agli agricoltori e al loro lavoro cooperativo, oltre che alla solidarietà. È anche legato all'Islam, che è la religione più professata dai guineani.
